Al Wasl sacks Maradona

The playing legend has been released from his latest coaching gig after just one season with the Middle Eastern club.

The Emirati club's new board of directors refuted such stories only last month, but Maradona has now been informed that his contract has been terminated one year before it was due to expire.

A club spokesman told Sport 360: "Following a meeting by the Board of Directors of Al Wasl Football Company on Tuesday evening to evaluate the technical staff of the Al Wasl football team under the leadership of Diego Maradona and after thorough evaluation of the coach and his staff it, has been decided to terminate the services of Diego Maradona and his technical staff."

Al Wasl finished in eighth position in the league, while losing the Gulf Clubs Championship final on penalties and crashing out of the President's and Emirates Cups, both at the quarterfinal stage.

Maradona returned to management in 2008 to guide the Argentine national team, before being sacked two years later following the Albiceleste's last-eight exit at the World Cup in South Africa.

Roberto Mancini has signed a new contract

Roberto Mancini has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City.

Mancini won the Premier League trophy at City for the first time in 44 years last year, after pipping Manchester rival United to the post.

"I am delighted to be able to give all of my efforts to Man City for a further five years," Mancini said in a declaration. "The opportunity which exists to build on our recent success is enormous."

Mancini has an impressive win rate of 60 percent at this team, and has been rewarded by the club's rich man owners. The deal will see the Italian add to his three years in charge and remain at the club until 2017.

"Roberto’s managerial credentials have been well proven in Europa for many years and in leading a team which has won the FA Cup and an unforgettable England Premier League title in successive seasons, his ability to manage in the English domestic game is also undisputed," City's interim chief executive officer John MacBeath said.

"This new agreement allows Roberto to focus on the challenge of guiding a team which is capable not only of defending the Premier League title, but one which can compete for European honors."

Contract talks were initially put on ice until the summer, as the Abu Dhabi owners waited to assess City's progress. The contract deal has ended speculation that saw Mancini strongly linked to several Russian clubs.

PSG will sign Verrati from Juventus

Verratti will sign for Paris Saint-Germain, says agent.

The Delfini has reportedly accepted a bid of approximately 13 million euros for the 19-year-old regista, who had repeatedly stated that his preference was to remain at the Stadio Adriatico for another season before moving to Juventus.

However, with the Bianconeri having refused to increase their bid for his services, Verratti has, according to agent Donato Di Campli, decided to join PSG.

"Right now I am on my honeymoon, having got married on Friday," the player's representative explained. "But we can say that the signing should come early next week or by the end of this one [by July 15].

"Anyway, the guy is willing to say 'yes' to PSG."

Verratti, who is being touted as 'the new Andrea Pirlo', played a key role in Pescara's promotion-winning campaign in Serie B last season and was included in Italy's provisional squad for Euro 2012.

Mark Boucher Eye Injury

South Africa wicket-keeper Mark Boucher will return home after suffering an eye injury during the first day of the Proteas' tour opener against English county Somerset, his team confirmed on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old had to undergo surgery on a "laceration" to the white of the left eyeball on Monday night after being struck by a bail on day one of the Proteas' tour match at Taunton.
"Mark Boucher will be returning home from the tour. Selectors will name a replacement in due course. Thank you all for your positive thoughts," said Cricket South Africa on Twitter.
A Cricket South Africa spokeswoman later confirmed that Boucher's replacement on the tour would be named on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when a ball from spinner Imran Tahir clean bowled Gemaal Hussain, with Boucher stood up to the stumps and wearing a cap instead of a helmet.
He immediately hit the ground and was helped from the pitch with blood apparently coming from his eye.

South Africa's team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee revealed that Boucher's hopes of playing the remainder of what could have been his final international tour were over, but also that there are wider health concerns.
"The extent of the eye injury can be described as severe. The eyeball (globe of the eye) was repaired during the operation," Moosajee said.
"The long-term prognosis at this stage remains unknown. He is definitely out of the series and will return home as soon as able to travel."
